Dante was born in Florence in May of 1265 to a politically invovled family. Best known for The Divine Comedy, Dante's writings held influence on theology and literature as a whole. Among the few who wrote in a Italian, he is most credited as the 'father of modern Italian'.
During his lifetime he held a number of high public offices, until his exile from Florence in 1302. consequently, this marked the beginning of his best years as a writer. |
